Blogging Search Engine Optimization Tips

Imagine getting hundreds or thousands of people to come to your blog all because you knew some basic blogging search engine optimization tips.  You don’t need to be an SEO expert, but just enough to be dangerous. Try these 5 tips out and let me know how you made out.

1. Use Keywords:

When it comes to blogging, I’ve experienced huge spikes when I take advantage of using keywords. There are keyword search tools out there, but when you read other people’s blogs about “how to find keywords for your blog” they normally just tell you what to do and not where to go – which I find annoying. Give me some links!

  • Google Adwords Keyword Tool
  • RockinSEO.com
  • Use search engine, type in what you would look for and see what comes up
2. Placement of Keywords:

But it’s also about incorporating those keywords in your title, first and last paragraphs. As you’ll notice in this blog post, my title, first and last paragraphs all contain my keyword phrase “blogging” and “search engine optimization tips.” If you can incorporate some of your keywords in the middle of your blog post, that’s helpful too.
NOTE: Only 3% or less of your blog post should contain your keywords/phrases otherwise it could be considered as spam by Google or other search engines.
Because this is a blog post, it’s also helpful that you use the same keywords in your “post tags.” You’ll notice at the bottom of the post I list my tags as: blogging, search engine optimization tips, how to seo, how to blogging, how to keywords. Why these keywords or phrases? Because according to the tools above, when people search about blogging keywords, they search on those key phrases the most.
3. Edit the post slug (the permalink) and make sure it includes one or two of the keywords.
4. Update the meta description with your keywords. Like this:
<head>
<meta name=”description” content=”blogging SEO tips” />
<meta name=”keywords” content=”HTML,CSS,XML,JavaScript” />
<meta name=”author” content=”Tracy Sestili” />
<meta http-equiv=”content-type” content=”text/html;charset=UTF-8″ />
</head>
5. Create backlinks from other relevant posts from your blog. Always better if it comes from an external blog, but still good if you backlink to it yourself.
You obviously want to write your article or blog post first with relevant keywords in mind but don’t write a blog post for keywords only – it will sound terrible.
