Last month Twitter partnered with American Express to allow small businesses and merchants the ability to advertise on Twitter. The offer was $100 in Twitter advertising (read further to see how you too, can take advantage of this offer). Now, American Express is notifying eligible Cardmembers and merchants that they can now advertise on Twitter. The initial offering is only to a small select group, however, be prepared to see many other small business owners start using this once it becomes available for the masses. Could Twitter finally have a real business model? And compete with the likes of Google, Facebook, and LinkedIn? Seems so.
You can check out the video below on how the Twitter Promoted Products will work. Essentially, they’ll offer Promoted Accounts and Promoted Tweets. Their suite of ad services will help you expand your reach and allow you to add more of the right people to your community.
Promoted Accounts are featured in search results and in the Who to Follow section of Twitter. How it works is Twitter scans people with common interests and suggests for them to follow your brand.
With Promoted Tweets, Twitter automatically monitors your Twitter engagement (tweets, retweets, mentions, etc) and then automatically promotes your best tweet. You can even decide geographically where you’d like that tweet to be promoted. This will help you reach the right people at the right time in the right places.
How much does it cost? As much as you want to spend. They don’t work like traditional digital ads. You only pay when someone follows your account or when someone engages with your tweet (i.e. replies, retweets, or favorites your tweet). You don’t pay for CPM (cost per thousand impressions), instead you pay for CPE (Cost per Engagement) or only for real brand engagement. Much like Google Ads, you can determine how much you want to spend per day, per follower or engagement (think of it like pay-per-click).
They are getting ready to slowly roll it out to small businesses. You can sign-up here: https://business.twitter.com/en/advertise/start/
