Below is an infographic created by WordStream comparing Google and Facebook display advertising components (not the companies against each other). They think that in terms of reach and revenue, Facebook and Google are pretty equal when it comes to display advertising. But when it comes to targeting options and ad formats, they claim that Facebook doesn’t quite cut it. See for yourself and let me know what you think in the comments below. Then come back tomorrow for my blog on 5 ways to optimize Facebook Ads. Enjoy!

Hey, Tracy! I’ve seen this a few times, and I’ve gotta say it seems like complete BS. It would seem to me that the one area of strength that Facebook has that can’t be refuted is the power to target based on numerous categories that can’t be targeted by Google. Yet, Facebook gets a C there? I don’t get it.
it should of course be taken with a grain of salt since I’m much more comfortable with Facebook than Google, but I find that my dollar goes much further on Facebook than Google. With AdWords, I’m spending $1-3 per click to a page selling or reviewing a product that would result in revenue. I don’t like those odds on something that may get me $10-$30 in return.
Granted, my Facebook ads aren’t often leading to direct revenue, but at least it’s leading to (or nurturing) a long-term relationship. With my AdWords efforts, all of the focus is on the sale. If I don’t get it, it’s a complete failure.
My two cents, at least (which is worth something with Facebook ads).
Hi Jon,
Definitely get where you’re coming from there. Facebook certainly has demographic categories that Google doesn’t have set up – but that’s not to say that Google doesn’t have demographic targeting – the two methods are just different. While both ad platforms provide a variety of methods for advertisers to focus their reach, we found that Google offered more ad targeting options, and that the effectiveness of each of all these tactics really varied by the skill of the advertiser. To a Facebook ad pro like yourself, of course this would look like BS!
Thanks for the two cents :)
