How To Enable Google Authorship on WordPress

Google AuthorshipGoogle is changing up their search engine results and relying more and more on what they call Google Authorship. It’s really easy to set up Google Authorship on WordPress. Basically Google Authorship says you are the author of your content. So when someone Google’s your name, your blog will come up. It will also help you gain more exposure for your blog.

4 Easy Steps to Setting Up Google Authorship on WordPress

  1. Create a Google Plus profile. The name under which you publish your blog must be the same as your Google Plus profile.
  2. Sign up for Google Authorship https://plus.google.com/authorship (you must have an email address at the domain on which you want to verify yourl blog authorship).

  3. In your WordPress Dashboard click on  Users>Your Profile and copy and paste the URL in for your Google Plus account you just created in step 1.

  4. Then go to Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool to verify your authorship. You should see something like this, if you did it correctly:

    Note: It may take a day or two for Google to catch up with your site.

Now when people do a search and your blog comes up, they’ll see your face next to the articles. It’s assumed that Google will start to give preferential treatment to blogs with verified authorship, although it’s not been confirmed.
