Why Infographics are So Effective on Social Media

If you have a data set and the chops to turn that data into an infographic that is engaging and easily share-able, then you have content gold. But the problem with many infographics is that they either are executed poorly. The information is old, from not very credible sources, or the stats are not really important in the grand scheme of things. Yet, we continue to create them and put them out there. Why? According to Hubspot, it’s human nature:

  • 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual
  • Visuals are processed 60,000 times faster in the brain than text
  • 40% of people will respond better to visual information than plain text information

Infographics when done right can educate and/or  entertain your audience by telling a comprehensive story that ebbs and flows seamlessly down the page. By creating a well-thought out infographic, you can:

  • Position you or your company as a thought leader in your industry
  • Create an asset that is great for back links to your website or has the ability to pinned to Pinterest
  • Engage your audience because infographics are widely shared. Publishers who generate infographics grow in traffic an average of 12% more than those who don’t. (Source HubSpot).

Tip: For best sharing results, be sure to include embed code for your Infographic. (See this Hubspot article on how to create your own embed code)

To develop a good infographic you need to have three things:

  • Good writing – where you research and double check your stats
  • Valuable data – data that is going to be useful to people, but might otherwise be hard to understand in text
  • Good graphic design – The right colors and typography can make your data pop
