Finding good candidates who not only have the skill set but are also the right fit can sometimes be very time consuming. With social media, recruiting has come a long way and with new apps and tools at your disposal, it’s becoming easier all the time. According to the 2012-2013 HR Systems Survey, 16% of recruiters and 11% of hiring managers use mobile recruiting apps. Probably because the most tedious part of recruiting is vetting candidates by going through all of the résumés trying to find some one who stands out with a specific set of keywords. Sure you can use a keyword tool, but it doesn’t necessarily identify skills. The other problem with résumés is that one can look good on paper and one can even interview well, but when it comes to actually doing the work, the candidate could be less valuable than you anticipated. Now what if you could eliminate the résumé entirely?
Your first solution? Enter HireArt to the rescue. HireArt creates online challenge-based interviews that simulate real-world tasks. This way there will be no surprises and you’ll know up front whether or not they can do the job or not. There’s also Recruiterbox, which allows you to create custom questionnaires which you can tailor to a specific job opening. Not quite the same, but a nice feature for start-ups who can’t afford an elaborate job search database.
An iOS app called Lookup by TalentBin allows recruiters to find qualified candidates and search to find links to their Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Quora, Google+ and other networks. More about TalentBin here: http://www.talentbin.com/
For those with the new Windows phone, People Hub allows you to do recruiting on the go. It allows you to check people’s status updates on social networks right from the app without having to go into each one on your own. The only downside of this is that it uses the Windows Phone Address book, which means you need to be connected to the person first.
Lastly, Scavado, allows you to easily connect with talent via email or phone. Forget about cold recruiting via LinkedIn. Now you can search anywhere in the world for aggregated top talent rather than waste your time wading through pages and pages of websites.
