5 Facebook Changes Rolled Out Overnight

As a social media blogger I can tell you that there is never a shortage of things to write about thanks to Facebook. They change things on a dime and they roll them out in the middle of the night. It’s an interesting approach.

Here’s what’s up today that will affect your personal Facebook page AND your brand’s Fan page.

    1. Friend Activity (Brand Fan page – this new tab on your Fan page will allow others to see how their friends are interacting with your brand.Facebook Fan Page Friend Activity
    2. The Ticker (Personal Facebook page) – will show you real-time activity as well as well as a quick preview if you just hover over someone (see image below)Facebook news feed Ticker
    3. Top Stories/Newsfeed(the most annoying of the new changes affects Brands and personal pages) – marks the upper left corner in a light blue which indicates top stories from your “friends” that Facebook thinks you’ll be interested in. It’s a combo of top stories (based on likes, comments) and most recent. However, you’re Most Recent news is now BELOW the top stories – so lots of scrolling. IF you see something that is NOT a top story, you can hover over the story and click the down arrow and mark that it’s not a top story.Facebook Top Stories and News Feed
    4. Email Frequency – (personal page) Facebook decided to cut down on the number of emails it is sending you (I’m sure for their benefit, not yours). In any case, Facebook will now send you important updates and summary emails instead of individual notifications.
      Still want the individual notifications? You can change it back in your privacy settings. (see image) by unchecking the box and then under “Facebook” the check boxes will become available.
