These days, consumers have harnessed the power of social media and are feeling empowered with their digital mobile devices. They are commanding your attention as a business owner and demanding that you listen. They want acknowledgement they’ve been heard. Restaurants, bars, and hotels especially have to embrace their customers online because now negative PR can go viral in an instant.
In a study by National Restaurant Association’s 2011 Restaurant Industry Forecast, 92 percent of the socially savvy public said they eat a meal at a sit-down restaurant at least once a month. It’s inevitable, as our lives get busier, we cook less and go out to eat more for convenience sake. Good for restaurants, yet bad for our bellies, although we are eating more healthy when dining out than we did two years ago.
According to a Pew Research study, 51% of adults seek out information about restaurants, bars and clubs online and of that, 38% rely on search engines, 17% on specialty web sites, and 3% on social media sites. This means that restaurants need to be very diligent and strategic in their social media strategy.
