The Social Network – 20 Things You Need To Know About Facebook

With the new movie “The Social Network” currently out in theaters, it has everyone buzzing about Facebook. Did Mark Zuckerberg really steal the software? Of course he probably did, but so did Bill Gates from Steve Jobs and really, who cares? The point is that your brand should probably be on Facebook and here are 20 reasons why:

  1. Average user has 130 friends on the site
  2. Average user sends 8 friend requests per month
  3. Average user spends more than 55 minutes per day on Facebook
  4. People spend over 700 billion minutes per month on Facebook
  5. Average user clicks the Like button on 9 pieces of content each month
  6. Average user writes 25 comments on Facebook content each month
  7. Average user becomes a fan of 2 Pages each month
  8. Average user is invited to 3 events per month
  9. Average user is a member of 12 groups
  10. There are over 150 million mobile users
  11. Over 3.5 million events are created each month
  12. There are over 55 million status updates each day
  13. 2.5 billion photos are uploaded each month
  14. More than 550,000 active applications currently on Facebook Platform
  15. More than one million websites have integrated with Facebook Platform
  16. About 70% of Facebook users are outside the United States
  17. 50% of our active users log on to Facebook in any given day
  18. Average user is connected to 80 community pages, groups and events
  19. Average user creates 90 pieces of content each month
  20. More than 30 billion pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.) are shared each month

What does all of this say? It says that if you have a business make sure you have a fan page set up for it on Facebook. If you sell things, make sure you can accept foreign currency via your online store. Also make sure your website is viewable on a smart phone because there are over 150M people accessing Facebook via their smart phone. (In fact, people that use Facebook on their mobile devices are twice as active on Facebook than non-mobile users.[1])If you have photos of events or products, make sure you create a photo album because people on Facebook really like photos. It also says that since over 30 billion pieces of content are shared, make sure your posts have a link and are quality posts.
